SVT journalist Bert Sundström awarded Årets KURage 2010
On February 3 this yearm foreign correspondent Bert Sundström on behalf of Swedish Television was stabbed and beaten in Egypt. Now
he is assigned Swedish Spa Hotels' award Årets KURage for his
dauntless courage in his work as a journalist and reporter. The jury took the decision on this year's winner after the Swedish people's nominations on Facebook.

The spa industry turnover of 4 billion and attracts 1.1 million visitors
The spa industry in Sweden turnover of 4 billion and employs 4000 people. Approximately 1.1 million Swedes went last year to a total of 400 000 spa treatments at 620 treatment sites. This shows a new survey conducted by SHR on behalf of Swedish Spa Hotels.

Record high interest when Swedish spa industry are gathered
Swedish Spa Hotels is steadily expanding. The number of connected spa becomes more and the public interest to get to spas are increasing. For the seventh consecutive year the association organizes Spa Convention for the spa industry to talk about news, trends, share experiences and inspire. Interest has been higher than ever, all participants and exhibitor spaces are fully booked and about 250 people will attend the event.

New members of Swedish Spa Hotels
Hagabadet (Gothenburg) and Cape East (Haparanda) are since in April 2011 members of the Swedish Spa Hotels. Hagabadet - the association's first day spa member - has existed in its present form in the same place in Gothenburg, Sweden for decades, but the beautiful building has escaped various baths since the late 1800s. Now the business has expanded to include a wide range of activities, therapies, fitness, training, conference and restaurant - a modern spa resort of classic cut.
Cape East - now Swedish Spa Hotels' northernmost member - opened its doors to its new spa Midnight Ice in summer 2010 and the motto is a tribute to Finland, partly manifested in the world's largest sauna with seating for 150 people. In the sauna you can experience snowfalls, even in summer. The spectacular spa houses in addition to several different saunas also an ice hole, hot pools and thunder shower with 100 liters of cold water. Gym, spa, heated outdoor pool and spa treatments are also available.

Swedish Spa Hotels welcomes Kosta Boda Art Hotel
Kosta Boda Art Hotel was completed in 2009 and is decorated with art glass, both in the form of fixed installations and exhibitions of art glass. The hotel's various environments are designed by Kosta Boda's seven world-famous designers. Among the more spectacular features include a four tonnes of heavy bar made entirely of glass, and the spa pool with underwater exhibitions.

Two new members of Swedish Spa Hotels
Two modern spa establishments of character have been added to the list of members of Swedish Spa Hotels – which now comes to 31 in number. It is Experium in Sälen, and Raison d´Etre at the Grand Hôtel in Stockholm which have fulfilled the criteria of the association and have been elected as members this spring.

Pär Johansson wins Årets KURage 2009
Swedish Spa Hotels’ award Årets KURage goes to Pär Johansson for his efforts on the behalf of mentally challenged people through initiation and running of the theatrical society Glada Hudik. Pär has coached the small amateur group into a professional ensemble whose productions are today produced in cooperation with the most distinguished in Swedish show business.

Going to a spa can be anything from a relaxing experience to a full workout, depending on the choices of the spa guest and what is being offered. In order to become even better at meeting the guests’ needs and wishes, they have been asked about their wishes. And now we know. A spa visit is an opportunity to gather energy and be pampered by competent personnel in a harmonious environment.

The first survey of the Spa business
We now know that the turnover of the Swedish spa business is 3.2 billion SEK and that it employs 3000 people. One million Swedes got, in total, 355.000 spa treatments at 650 establishments last year. This survey was ordered from SHR (Swedish Skin-therapists National Association) by the trade association Swedish Spa Hotels.
